I kicked off another year with a birthday weekend trip to Fortune Island off the coast of Batangas. The island was once the site of a resort that for political reasons was closed and the island remains uninhabited to this day. The resort is decaying and most of the buildings have caved in, but the beaches is gorgeous and the remnants of the fake Greek ruins from the resort are actually quite charming. Plus, you have an island all to yourself with beach-front camping.

Day 1 ended with a spectacular sunset (see above), complete with sightings of breaching manta rays and sharks in the waters below the cliffs. Day 2 started off with an equally nice sunrise.
