To monitor assistance that was given out after Typhoon Hagupit (locally known as Ruby) that hit the Philippines in December, I travels to the island of Samar last week. We flew into the province of Northern Samar, then drove to Western Samar, then Eastern and back up to Northern Samar. Lots of driving, but was great to see a new area and see the recovery that is on-going after the typhoon.
Dirty plane window, but you get the idea….runway is pretty close to the beach
Thursday night rush hour traffic in Catarman means that the runway becomes a road. Luckily there is only one daily AM flight, but still an odd feeling to be using the air strip as a road to the hotel.
