The first part of my New Zealand trip was the Tongariro Northern Circuit, a 3 day 52km hike, through the alpine and volcanic terrain of the North Island. I had good weather for day 1, but sadly conditions were pretty bad for day 2 and 3 with wind gusts up to 120kph and heavy rains. At least day 1 was spectacular to make up for the other two long, wet days.
